PERSONAL PROFILE
Whilst studying Journalism at the University of Lincoln and through work placements I have been able to explore my passions in radio, music and film whilst proving to be self-motivated, committed and responsible, even under pressure.
I currently produce, direct and present my own radio show, the “Alternative Mix” on Lincoln’s community radio station, Siren FM, in which I promote alternative music and new artists as well as conducting film reviews and discussions. I also work as a day editor for the news team and write movie reviews and music based feature articles for The Linc student newspaper. This has enabled me to develop my skills in writing, interviewing and taking control of my own news team as well as with using recording, editing and radio studio equipment.
I am able to work independently, using my own initiative, and as part of a team. I believe these aspects will make me a valuable member of your radio station. I consider myself an energetic and friendly person who is easily approachable and willing to help wherever possible. I believe this has helped me perform my job positions successfully and that the hard work and passion I place on my academic achievements is reflected in my employment.
All my work has been presented on this blog.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Siren FM, Alternative Mix presenter (Part-time)
September 2011 – to present
I currently produce, direct and present my own radio show, the “Alternative Mix”. This has enabled me to enhance my skills in radio presenting and working with editing, recording and radio broadcasting equipment as well as exploring my passions in alternative music, new artists and film.
I have also experienced the inner workings of Siren FM, Lincoln’s community radio station. This has involved experience with volunteers, the importance of Ofcom’s broadcasting guidelines as well as gaining experience from working with experienced radio professionals.
Siren FM, Day Editor (Part-time)
September 2010 – to present
I work with and supervise my own news team, collecting and producing local news stories to be broadcast in bulletins within strict time limits. I actively take part in conducting interviews with local people, writing stories and presenting the news live on the radio.
University of Lincoln’s “The Linc” newspaper, Writer for the Online Culture Section (Part-time)
March 2011 – to present
I currently write movie reviews and music based feature articles for the online newspaper to explore my passion for film and music as well as improving my writing technique. I have also taken part in a number of interviews with artists and bands which have improved my communication and interviewing skills substantially.
University of Lincoln’s “Bullet Magazine”, Writer for the Online Style Section (Part-time)
September 2010 – March 2011
I expressed my enthusiasm for fashion trends and creating different looks through writing articles weekly for the online magazine. Finding these stories has involved interviewing people such as models and fashion show organisers. I have also taken part in photo shoots where I have assisted in deciding the hair, make-up and clothing to create the desired look for the cover.
Strada Italian Restaurant, Waitress (Part-time)
May 2010 - Present
As a waitress I have had to maintain the positive reputation of the restaurant and bar by ensuring customers are happy. This involves working under pressure whilst ensuring an effective and successful service, individually and as part of a team when serving food and drink, money handling, and cleaning and re-laying tables.
This experience has also greatly developed my socialising and communication skills and my confidence. This has proved invaluable when creating positive relationships with staff and customers.
The Bear Inn, Waitress (Part-time)
December 2007 – May 2010
See above.
LB Group, PA Assistant (Part-Time)
27th – 31st July 2009, 17th – 28th August 2009
As an assistant, my duties involved sending letters, faxing, answering the telephone and meeting and greeting visitors. Again this enhanced my communication skills and confidence to maintain positive relationships with clients and staff.
AWARDS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
At Mayflower High School I received Head Teacher and attendance awards and I was part of the prefect team. This involved helping and representing the school at open evenings.
Moreover, I have completed my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and I was part of the Interact volunteer programme for two years, where I helped a child with learning difficulties gain confidence and social skills.
INTERESTS
I have a keen interest in radio, music, film, writing and reading. I enjoy customising my own clothes, reading Empire and Kerrang! magazine and going to gigs and concerts.
I love taking part in Siren FM as part of their news team and as a radio presenter of the Alternative Mix. I also enjoy listening to Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio, socialising with friends and family, travelling and meeting new people.
